Our residentials are a highlight of the year, giving young people the chance to explore new environments, build teamwork, and grow in confidence away from home. These shared experiences strengthen relationships and create lasting memories.
Residential trips are a vital part of our youth work. They give children and young people the chance to step outside their everyday environments, often far away from the challenges of inner-city life, and experience something completely different. During these trips, they learn new skills, cook for themselves, explore the outdoors, and build friendships that last well beyond the journey.
At The Shewsy, we are incredibly proud of our residential programme and the strong relationships we build with our young people along the way. Each year we organise five residentials. Some take us abroad to places like Cyprus and Ireland, while others are closer to home in places such as Play Away in Yorkshire or the Old Bunk House in Ingleton. Thanks to generous donations, the cost of each trip is heavily subsidised to ensure that no young person is excluded. We simply ask for a small contribution to help make them possible. Our young people absolutely love these experiences, and their enthusiasm speaks for itself through the photos and videos we share.
We also welcome students from Shrewsbury School to Liverpool, where they spend time interacting with the children at The Shewsy. Our partnership with the school spans more than 100 years, and these exchange visits have become a cherished tradition. They are often described as some of the most memorable experiences for both the Shrewsbury pupils and our own young people. Our youth workers have also enjoyed visiting the school, taking part in day trips and even joining them on overseas adventures. In fact, two of our young people will be travelling with Shrewsbury School next March on a trip to Africa to volunteer in an orphanage — an opportunity that has the power to change lives.
